Transmission Lines
Currently, Dominion is rolling out its Morrisville to Wishing Star project, a 500 and 230kV transmission line which will span three counties, including Prince William. Much of this new line will cross through Brentsville. Learn more on Dominion’s project page here.
This project will require right-of-way expansions of 65' - 250’ feet in places, and in other areas (behind Braemar) will be a full wreck-and-rebuild.
Dominion has not provided consistent information on the height of this new line, but it seems as though it will be roughly 196-211 feet tall, compared to the current approx 153 feet tall lines.
No notification of this project was sent to landholders who will be impacted by the alternate routes. In fact, Dominion has not even provided consistent access to maps of alternate routes and did not show maps of these potential paths on their virtual community meeting.
This project will move powerlines up to 100 feet closer to Chris Yung Elementary School.
This project will impact sensitive areas, including but not limited to wetlands at the PWC/Fauquier line, wetlands in Broad Run Linear Park, land acquisition from county parkland including Broad Run Linear Park and Catharpin Park, powerlines built through Manassas Battlefield National Park and American Battlefield Trust land, and alternate routes showing lines built along the perimeter of Conway Robinson State Forest.
Dominion has been clear that the primary reason for this line upgrade is to power the data center industry. Citizen rate payers should not be footing the bill for this line upgrade, and it should be funded by the industry requiring the infrastructure improvements.
